When you have nothing to do, then just sit tight. Have you read Jesse Livermore's book? Cut your loses short, let your profit run.

I'm still sitting with my Iris and Liondiv. I have learned my lessons from past mistakes. U can never predict where a stock will stop. Just observe and let it tell you where it wants to stop.

Yup... agree with you. But I also like to take some profit along the way. Kaching! Nothing like hearing the cash register ring once in a while. As Jim Cramer says "pigs get slaughtered... dont be a pig".

Sorry your comment took so long to appear. Didn't know turning comment moderation on required me to approve comments bfr publishing. Was wondering why I couldn't see your comment on the blog before I figured it out.

Hi, do you use a system to determine your sell position?

I'm currently trying out volume/price/candle system now. That's why I decided to sell of my Iris also.

I use different approaches for different circumstances. Too convoluted and lenghty to get into here. But key factors are whether a particular stock was bought as a trade or as an "investment" (hate that word!!), the company's so-called fundamentals and most importantly, general market condition/direction.

From the above, I apply a combination of trailing stops, price targets and yes, I also use price action and volume to try to gauge the short-term balance of supply and demand for a particular stock.

I find candlesticks do not have much predictive ability in a difficult market like this, although I only know the basics and don't go into "morning stars" and like ... : )But candlestick charts are a great way to get a quick snapshot of price/volume action.
